Middlesbrough Man Jailed for Rape After Brutal 2022 Attack
Leon Germaine Worsfold, 47, from Middlesbrough, has been handed a nine-year prison sentence for raping and sexually assaulting a woman in her 30s. The horrific attack happened back in March 2022.
Thorough Police Investigation Leads to Conviction
After a detailed inquiry by Cleveland Police’s Major Enquiry Team, Worsfold was charged and appeared at Teesside Crown Court on Friday, 31st May. Despite overwhelming evidence, he denied the assault throughout the court case, forcing the victim to relive the traumatic ordeal while giving her testimony.
Detective Praises Victim’s Bravery, Urges Others to Speak Out
“Leon Worsfold attacked a vulnerable woman. He assaulted and raped her; and at court, he continued to deny the incident, meaning the victim had to relive the ordeal and give evidence,” said Detective Inspector Matt Hollingsworth.
“I would like to thank the woman for her bravery and unwavering strength throughout the investigation and court proceedings.”
“Anyone who has been a victim of sexual offences, no matter how long ago, is urged to report it. We will not tolerate violence of this nature and will keep putting offenders before the courts.”
