Man Charged Over 1999 Teen Murder After Two Decades

A 66-year-old man has been formally charged with the kidnapping and murder of 17-year-old Victoria Hall, whose body was found dumped in a ditch five days after she vanished in 1999. Steve Gerald James Wright appeared via video link from custody at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court as this chilling cold case was reopened.

The Tragic Disappearance of Victoria Hall

Victoria, from Trimley St Mary, Suffolk, was last seen alive shortly after 2:20am on September 19, 1999. She had split from a friend after leaving Bandbox nightclub in Felixstowe. The following morning, her parents found she hadn’t returned home, sparking a missing person’s inquiry that baffled cops for years.

Her body was discovered five days later at Creeting St Peter, some 25 miles away from where she disappeared. The heart-breaking case remained unsolved for decades, haunting locals and investigators alike.

Steve Wright Faces Grim Charges

Steve Wright, formerly of London Road, Ipswich, now stands accused not only of Victoria’s murder but also of attempting to kidnap another woman the day before Victoria vanished. Suffolk Police revealed that on September 18, 1999, a 22-year-old woman reported being followed and attacked in Felixstowe by a man suspected to be Wright.

During the brief court hearing, Wright confirmed his identity but did not enter a plea. He remains in custody and is set for a preliminary hearing at Ipswich Crown Court later this week.

Attempted Kidnapping Linked to Wright

Police say Wright allegedly tried to abduct Emily Doherty in Felixstowe between 3am and 4am on September 18, 1999—just a day before Victoria Hall disappeared. This attempted kidnapping charge adds a disturbing layer to the case.

Wright is yet to respond to the charges but remains in custody as the investigation intensifies.

This long-cold case is finally turning a corner, offering hope for justice after more than two decades.
