Tragic Crash Claims Life of Hertfordshire Police Acting Sergeant
A fatal collision struck just before 7am on Saturday 29 June on the southbound carriageway between Rush Green and Great Amwell. The crash involved a motorbike and a VW Golf.
Beloved Officer Dies at Scene
Emergency crews, including police and ambulance, rushed to the scene. Heartbreakingly, the motorcyclist died at the spot. He has been named as 36-year-old Hertfordshire Constabulary Acting Sergeant Reece Buckenham.
Family Pays Moving Tribute
Reece’s grieving family, supported by officers, shared a heartfelt statement:
“We are absolutely devastated to confirm the sudden and tragic loss of our beloved Reece. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, friend, and colleague.
Most importantly, he was a wonderful father to his son, aged 10, and daughter, aged four. Reece had a brilliant sense of humour, lighting up any room with his smile and infectious personality.
He was fiercely protective and always stood up for those in need, whether friends, colleagues, or strangers. Reece joined the Metropolitan Police Service as a PCSO before transferring to Hertfordshire to follow his dream of becoming a police officer – a role he adored and was proud of.
He was on the cusp of promotion to substantive Acting Sergeant and had just completed a night shift when this devastating tragedy occurred. His son called him a ‘great Dad’ and his hero. The world will be far darker without Reece’s smile and many silly faces.
We will never fill the void left in our family. Reece – our son, brother, and superhero daddy – we love you.”
The family has asked for privacy at this difficult time.
Police Pay Tribute and Launch Investigation Appeal
Chief Constable Charlie Hall said:
“The thoughts of all at the constabulary are with Reece’s family and friends after their tragic loss. He was a much-respected colleague whose death has deeply affected the force. Reece was a committed and experienced officer who served the public well. We are proud he was one of us. Rest in peace, Reece.”
Detective Sergeant Craig Wheeler from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit added:
“We continue to probe the circumstances of the collision. We urge anyone who witnessed the crash or events leading up to it to come forward. If you have dash cam footage, please check it – you may hold vital evidence.”
