Jealous Rapist Jailed for 16 Years After Hotel Attack

Ian Foster, 41, homeless and dangerous, has been slammed with a 16-year prison sentence at Wood Green Crown Court on Tuesday, 16 July. He’s also slapped with a restraining order banning any contact with his victim.

Foster was found guilty of rape in a unanimous verdict on 26 April, thanks to an ironclad case built by police.

Jealous Fury Erupts in Edmonton Hotel

The victim, a woman in her 30s who knew Foster, met him at a hotel in Edmonton, N9, on 17 January 2020. The pair clashed in a heated argument, fuelled by Foster’s sexual jealousy. After tensions cooled, they fell asleep.

But in the early hours of 18 January, Foster brutally raped the woman while she was asleep.

Victim’s Courage Helps Bring Predator to Justice

Police rushed to the hotel after the victim’s mother called, worried about the argument. However, the victim was too scared to say she’d been raped and just wanted to go home, with her parents arriving soon after.

Once safe at home early on 19 January, she reported the crime through a friend. Detectives from the North Area’s Public Protection team launched a full investigation.

Foster was hunted down and arrested in Devon later that day. He was recalled to prison for breaching licence conditions after previous rape convictions from 2012 in Truro. He had been released in 2017.

Damning Evidence Seals Foster’s Fate

Prosecutors presented witness accounts—including hotel staff, family, and friends—and CCTV footage showing Foster trailing the victim around the hotel like a “puppy dog” on 18 January.

Thousands of phone messages revealed Foster’s obsessive jealousy, including a chilling confession on 18 January, where he admitted not knowing why he raped the victim while she was unconscious.

Detective Sergeant Myles Bossman said: “Foster is a highly dangerous individual, convicted of rape twice. His jealousy drives him to attack when the woman is most vulnerable—while she sleeps. He shows zero remorse.

“Thanks to the relentless work of the Public Protection team, Foster is back behind bars. We gathered enough evidence to get justice for the victim who showed extraordinary courage.”

“This sentence sends a clear message: violence against women will not be tolerated. Anyone affected by sexual assault should contact police for support from specially trained officers.”
