Cop Caught Stealing Cash from Dead Italian Filmmaker on London Street
Shock and outrage as PC Craig Carter, 51, a Metropolitan Police officer, pleaded guilty to robbing £115 from the body of an Italian filmmaker who died on a busy London street. The appalling theft happened between September 7 and 14, 2022.
Victim Dies Suddenly During Morning Rush
Claudio Gaetani, 45, tragically died of a heart attack while cycling through Haringey, North London. He was on his way to meet friends in nearby Hornsey after arriving in London just the night before for a Southbank theatre festival. Gaetani’s body lay unattended for six hours before an undertaker arrived.
PC Carter Admits Misconduct in Public Office
Appearing at Wood Green Crown Court, Carter confessed to stealing the cash from Gaetani’s wallet at the scene. The court described the betrayal as a severe breach of trust by a public officer.
Judge Daniel Fugallo warned Carter faces immediate custody, highlighting the serious nature of his offence. Carter remains on unconditional bail and will be sentenced on September 13.
Suspended Officer Awaits Punishment
Carter, suspended from the Met’s North Area Command Unit covering Enfield and Haringey, now faces the full force of justice for his disgraceful actions against a grieving family.
