Prison Instructor Faces Court Over ‘Inappropriate Relationship’ with Convicted Murderer

Hayley Jones, 33, a prison workshop instructor, has appeared in court accused of misconduct in public office over an alleged “inappropriate relationship” with Jordan McSweeney. McSweeney is serving a life sentence for the murder of Zara Aleena, a law graduate brutally killed in east London.

Convicted Murderer Jordan McSweeney’s Dark Past

Jordan McSweeney, 31, is locked up at HMP Belmarsh with a minimum 33-year term for the shocking murder of 35-year-old Zara Aleena. The attack happened as Zara walked home from a night out in Ilford in the early hours of June 26, 2022. McSweeney had been released from prison just nine days before committing the crime.

Originally sentenced in December 2022 to a minimum of 38 years, McSweeney successfully appealed in November 2023 to reduce his minimum term to 33 years.

Alleged Misconduct and Court Details

  • The alleged misconduct by Jones occurred between March 6 and April 7, 2023, while McSweeney was in custody.
  • Jones, from Strood, Kent, appeared in Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court; McSweeney joined via video link.
  • McSweeney also faces charges of encouraging or assisting the commission of an indictable offence.
  • The case was adjourned until September 25 at Woolwich Crown Court.
  • Jones was granted conditional bail but must not contact McSweeney or visit his prison.

Zara Aleena’s Family Reacts

The allegations have hit Zara Aleena’s family hard. Her aunt, Farah Naz, voiced their deep disappointment over the reported relationship between Jones and McSweeney.

The case continues to unravel, with further updates expected at the next hearing.
