Roommate Stabber Jailed for 19 Years After Brutal Attack
A man who stabbed his roommate multiple times and then went on the run has been locked up for 19 years. Alfid Kalid, 25, launched the violent attack at their shared home in Laverstoke Court, Derby, back in September 2023.
Fleeing Suspect Caught and Convicted
After the brutal assault, Kalid fled but was soon arrested. He claimed he stabbed the victim in revenge for a prior attack. Police thoroughly investigated but found no evidence to support his excuse.
Kalid, originally from Peet Street, Derby, was found guilty of attempted murder at Derby Crown Court. The judge sentenced him on Wednesday, delivering a hefty 19-year prison term.
Victim Survives Thanks to Quick Emergency Response
Police revealed Kalid stabbed his roommate with such force the knife remained lodged in the man’s back. Fortunately, swift action by emergency services saved the victim’s life.
Detective Chief Inspector Greg McGill said: “That Kalid’s victim did not die that day is down to sheer good fortune and the fast actions of the emergency responders.”
McGill added, “Kalid’s claim that he was assaulted was fully investigated and found baseless. Even if he was a victim, his violent reaction was completely unjustified and nearly fatal.”
A Stark Warning Against Violence
The shocking attack serves as a grim reminder of how deadly violence can be. Authorities praised the emergency teams whose quick response prevented a tragedy.
