Canterbury Stabbing Horror: Young Man Killed in Brutal Night Attack

23-Year-Old Samare Gerezgihir Fatally Stabbed in City Centre

A 23-year-old man, Samare Gerezgihir, has tragically died following a savage stabbing in Canterbury’s busy city centre. The horror unfolded just after 11:30 pm on Thursday, October 10, near the junction of High Street and St Margaret’s Street.

Despite paramedics’ best efforts, Mr Gerezgihir was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services were called to the violent disturbance.

Two Men Charged with Murder in Margate Court

Two men appeared in Margate Magistrates’ Court charged with Mr Gerezgihir’s murder. Kemal Ibrahim, 24, from Canterbury, and 31-year-old Mohammed Hgar, who has no fixed address, face murder charges alongside possession of a knife in a public place. Ibrahim also faces an additional assault charge.

Both suspects confirmed their personal details but made no further comments. Prosecutor Dylan Bradshaw described the stabbing as a “particularly violent” attack. The case is set to move to Maidstone Crown Court, with a bail hearing scheduled for Wednesday and a preliminary hearing on November 11.

Police Crack Down as Forensics Search Scene

Canterbury city centre was sealed off for hours while forensic teams combed the area for clues. A heavy police presence remained around St Margaret’s Street, High Street, Guildhall Street, and Stour Street.

Local businesses and residents were left in shock as police worked through the night to piece together what happened.

Investigation Ongoing – Two More Held Then Released

Two other men were initially arrested in connection with the attack but have since been released on bail as inquiries continue.

Canterbury District Commander Chief Inspector Paul Stoner assured the public that a dedicated team is fully investigating the murder. He also thanked residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation during the police operation.
