Brighton Armed Stop Nets Sawn-Off Shotgun, Knives, False Plates – Driver Jailed 5 Years

Driver Jailed for Five Years After Armed Stop in Brighton

A 27-year-old driver was slammed with a five-year prison sentence after being caught red-handed with a sawn-off shotgun, knives, and false number plates in Brighton.

Armed Stop Uncovers Weapons and Stolen Car

Osiris Fleming-Rey, from Bedfordshire, was pulled over on the A23 southbound near Viaduct Road by officers from the Tactical Firearms Unit (TFU), Roads Policing Unit, and Specialist Enforcement Unit. Police suspected the black Honda Civic he was driving had false plates—and they were right.

  • Police found a sawn-off shotgun, a knife, and a lock knife inside the vehicle.
  • Fleming-Rey was immediately arrested and taken into custody.

Guilty on All Counts at Guildford Crown Court

At Guildford Crown Court, Fleming-Rey faced charges of possessing a firearm and two counts of carrying bladed articles. He was convicted on every count and sentenced on October 10 to five years behind bars.

The court heard the stop took place on the night of November 24 last year. Fleming-Rey claimed he had “borrowed” the car from a “friend” but couldn’t provide any details. It soon emerged he was already breaching a suspended sentence slapped on him in January 2023 for previous knife possession.

Weapons Destroyed and Stolen Car Seized

  • The court ordered the destruction of all weapons found in the car.
  • A Deprivation Order was put in place to seize the suspected stolen vehicle.

“This case demonstrated the teamwork and professionalism of officers to ensure the vehicle was safely stopped. The vehicle was then searched and weapons were found. These were seized by police. We are pleased that a dangerous offender and the weapons he carried have been taken off the streets,”
