The alarm was raised just before 3pm on Wednesday, October 30. Fire crews rushed to the scene with eight fire engines and an aerial ladder. Residents in nearby buildings were warned to keep doors and windows tightly shut to avoid dangerous smoke fumes.
Road Closures and Casualties Reported
- Roads around the site, including Bedford Road and Laundry Road, were closed off near Guildford Crown Court and the Odeon Cinema.
- One person was taken to hospital, while two others received on-site treatment from paramedics.
Fire Extinguished but Caution Still Urged
By 5pm, Surrey Fire and Rescue confirmed the blaze was under control. Though most fire engines left, three pumps and an aerial ladder stayed to damp down hotspots and prevent flare-ups.

Station Commander Love said the fire started in a flat above the Bedford Road car park, which temporarily closed its southern entrance but left the northern side open.
