Snapchat Predator Jailed for Rape of Teen Girl
Oliver James, 29, was sentenced to eight years in prison after admitting to raping a teenage girl he met on Snapchat. Posing as a 16-year-old before claiming to be 19, James lured the victim into a deadly trap in woodland near Station Road, Denton, Newhaven.
Brutal Assault in Woodland
On May 3, James persuaded the girl to meet him despite her refusal. He then forced himself on her before fleeing the scene. The victim courageously reported the horrifying attack and has been supported throughout by specialist officers.
Police Launch Thorough Investigation
Detective Constable Gemma Taylor led the probe, examining Snapchat messages, interviewing witnesses, and collecting forensic evidence from the crime scene. This painstaking work built a rock-solid case against James.
‘Dangerous Paedophile’ Sentenced at Lewes Crown Court
On October 29, James was branded a “dangerous paedophile” at Lewes Crown Court and slapped with a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Detective Sergeant Nick Green praised the victim’s bravery and the investigation team’s efforts.
“Oliver James pleaded guilty to the rape and sexual assault of a child. He is a dangerous paedophile, and his sentence reflects the threat he poses. I hold great respect for the victim’s incredible strength, and thanks to Detective Taylor for her dedication to justice,” said Detective Sergeant Green.
