Two Teens Charged After Corrosive Attack at Surbiton Station
Two teenagers, aged just 16 and 14, have been hit with charges following a dangerous incident involving a corrosive substance at Surbiton railway station on November 29.
Suspicious Behaviour Sparks Alkaline Attack
British Transport Police (BTP) spotted the pair acting suspiciously around 4.20pm. During their attempt to question the teens, officers were exposed to a substance believed to be alkaline, causing immediate concern.
Officers Hurt, Hospitalised But Now Discharged
Two officers were rushed to hospital after exposure but have since been discharged. On top of that, seven more officers — including two from the Metropolitan Police — needed medical attention at the scene.
Station Shutdown and Ongoing Probe
Surbiton station was temporarily closed, throwing train services into chaos. The investigation is still ongoing, with BTP urging anyone with information to step forward.
The teens, who cannot be named for legal reasons, face charges of possession of a corrosive substance in a public place. They are due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates Court on December 2.
