Ilford Horror: Beloved Dad Dies After Brutal Station Assault

Tragic Attack at Ilford Station

Jorge Ortega, 61, has died following a savage assault at Ilford railway station. The attack happened around 8:49pm on Wednesday, 4 December. Paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance rushed Jorge to hospital, but he sadly passed away on Friday evening, 6 December.

Family Pays Heartfelt Tribute

Jorge’s family remembers him as a devoted father, grandfather, and loving husband. His son said:

“Our dad was the most loving person, the kindest soul you could ever meet. Everyone who knew him will tell you this. He had a brilliant mind, loved cooking, drawing, and was highly skilled in art.”

“He was an amazing family man, always putting others first. He adored his grandchildren and was devoted to our mum for over 38 years. He set an example of what a great man should be — a true role model. Dad will always be in our hearts.”

Man Arrested and Charged

Police arrested 28-year-old Ayodele Jamgbadi from Kingston Road, Ilford. He faces charges of Grievous Bodily Harm, Affray, and possession of an offensive weapon. Detectives are preparing to upgrade the charges to reflect Jorge’s death. Jamgbadi remains in custody and is due at Inner London Crown Court on 7 January 2025.

Detective Inspector Paul Attwell described the attack as a “horrific and tragic incident” and urged respect for Jorge’s grieving family. British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them on 0800 405040 or text 61016, quoting reference 699 of 4 December.
