Man Charged with Murder of Woman Found Dead in Croydon
A 21-year-old man has been charged with the murder of 31-year-old Jamelatu Tsiwah, found dead at a Croydon home on Monday, 20 January.
Suspect in Custody
- Larry Nimoh, 21, homeless, faces charges of murder and attempted murder.
- He is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 23 January.
- Jamelatu Tsiwah was confirmed as the victim. She lived in Croydon.
- Emergency services responded around 7pm after reports of an unresponsive woman at Bensham Lane.
- Despite efforts by London Ambulance Service, Jamelatu was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation Update and Community Reassurance
Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila, heading the investigation, confirmed the victim and suspect knew each other, stressing there is no broader risk to the community.
“Today’s update will bring some reassurance to Jamelatu’s family and the community. We have worked tirelessly to secure a charge and build a picture of what happened on Monday evening,” said DCI Gammampila.
Ongoing Appeal for Witnesses
Police urge anyone in Bensham Lane between 6pm and 7pm on Monday to come forward. DCI Gammampila said:
“If you saw anything suspicious or someone fleeing the scene, please get in touch. Even the smallest detail could help.”
Cause of Death and Family Support
- A post-mortem confirmed Jamelatu died from neck compression.
- Specialist officers are supporting her family, who ask for privacy during this tough time.
