Amesbury Man Locked Up for Rape After Victim’s Brave Battle
A 22-year-old from Amesbury has been sentenced to 28 months behind bars for rape. Ben Churcher, of Muggleton Road, was found guilty at Salisbury Crown Court on November 27, 2024. His victim’s courage in speaking out after years of torment has finally brought him to justice.
Shock Crime Kept Silent for a Year
The horrific attack happened in 2020, but the victim stayed silent for a year, battling severe emotional pain, isolation, and even thoughts of suicide before reporting it to police in 2021.
“I felt dirty in my own skin and couldn’t handle feeling so alone anymore. My family suffered too—they worry about me and my future. They worry about leaving me at home,” she told the court in a powerful statement.
The trial took its toll on her wellbeing, causing sleepless nights, trouble focusing, and difficulty working. Churcher’s friends and family also tried to intimidate her and accuse her of lying.
She said: “I have spent years in fear that Ben would come after me due to his threats. Ben spent so long telling me that no one would ever believe me, but I finally feel I now have closure and people know the truth.”
Justice Served – But Battle Isn’t Over
On January 31, Churcher was sentenced to 28 months in prison, serving half behind bars before release on licence. He was also slapped with a 10-year sex offenders register term and a 5-year restraining order banning any contact with the victim.
Detective Constable Deborah Laycock praised the victim’s bravery:
“I’d like to thank the victim in this case for showing an enormous amount of bravery and fortitude throughout the process of bringing Churcher to justice.”
She urged other survivors to come forward, promising police support and relentless pursuit of offenders.
