East London Councillor Charged Over Rape Case Interference
An East London councillor has landed in hot water, charged with perverting the course of justice after allegedly trying to persuade a 16-year-old girl to drop her rape allegation.
Abdul Malik Faces Court for Alleged Cover-Up
Abdul Malik, 50, who represents Blackwall and Cubitt Town ward on Tower Hamlets Council, appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Friday. He faces charges of interfering with the criminal case to get the teen to withdraw her serious accusation.
Two More Arrested in the Same Case
- Abdul Roqib, 45, is accused of contacting the victim on January 10 to push her into dropping charges against his son – an act prosecutors say aimed to pervert justice.
- Rahela Begum, 41, also allegedly contacted the teenage girl on the same day, trying to convince her to back out of the legal process.
Legal Battle Ongoing – Council Yet to React
All three face prosecution as the case moves through the criminal courts. Tower Hamlets Council has so far stayed silent on Malik’s status or whether he’ll be suspended while the investigation continues.
