Man Charged with Kidnap After Teen Girl Assault in Newton Aycliffe

Teen Girl Attacked and Forced Inside Property

A 22-year-old man has been charged with kidnapping after a brutal attack on a teenage girl in Newton Aycliffe. The terrifying ordeal happened shortly before 10pm on Thursday, February 27, when the victim was assaulted on the street and then dragged into a nearby property.

Despite the harrowing experience, the girl managed to escape and raise the alarm at a neighbouring house, prompting a rapid police response.

Suspect Arrested and Facing Multiple Charges

Police arrested Matthew Hindhaugh from Newton Aycliffe the very same night. He now faces serious charges including kidnap, assault, possession of an offensive weapon, and non-fatal strangulation. Hindhaugh has been remanded in custody and will appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court today.

Police Step In to Support Victim

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Turner of Durham Constabulary called the incident “isolated but understandably very shocking and upsetting” for the girl and her family.

“Specially trained officers are currently supporting the victim and ensuring she receives the help and support she needs. A man has been charged in connection with the incident, and I would like to reassure people that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.”
