Knife-Point Robber Sentenced to Six Years After Terrorising Gillingham
Violent Robbery Spree Shakes Gillingham
Jack Holland-Batt, 31, from Stopford Road, Gillingham, has been locked up for six years. The violent felon pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery, one of attempted robbery, and carrying a deadly blade in public. The sentencing took place at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday, 11 March 2025.
Three Terrifying Attacks in Broad Daylight
Holland-Batt’s rampage started midday on 25 November 2024. First, he stormed a pharmacy on Canterbury Street, waving a knife and demanding cash. The shaken staff handed over just £20, but the thug got angrier, demanding more before storming off empty-handed.
Not done, he hit an amusement arcade on Green Street next. Brandishing the blade again, he demanded safe access. When told there was no money inside, he casually left.
Moments later, he tried a third time on the High Street. A quick-thinking worker escaped to a back room pretending to fetch keys. When she came back, Holland-Batt was gone.
Confession and Arrest
In a twist, the knife-wielding criminal called Kent Police to confess but wouldn’t reveal his exact location. Officers tracked him down to an address he frequented and nabbed him as he approached the door. He tried to lie about his identity but was promptly arrested.
Police Praise Victims and Swift Action
“This criminal pulled a knife on three people who feared they were in real danger of being stabbed,” said Detective Constable Emma Laimbeer, leader of the investigation. “Nobody should suffer violence whilst at work. I thank the victims for their bravery and help in bringing this criminal to justice.”
Holland-Batt’s sentencing brings relief to local workers left traumatised but also shows how fast police moves and community cooperation can stop dangerous offenders in their tracks.
