Man Pleads Guilty to Fatal Stabbing

A 53-year-old man has admitted murdering a university lecturer in a brutal stabbing that rocked Plymouth earlier this year. Paul Antony Butler pleaded guilty today at Plymouth Crown Court to the murder of 48-year-old Claire Chick in a January incident. He also confessed to possessing a bladed article.

Butler appeared via video link from prison. He spoke only to confirm his name and plead guilty. The suspect was visibly emotional and wiped away a tear during the brief hearing as the charges were read out.

Claire Chick, a well-known university lecturer, was found fatally wounded at a Plymouth property. Emergency services rushed to the scene but could not save her life. Butler was arrested at the location and charged shortly after.
