Man Slams Pedestrian then Crashes

A 38-year-old Leyton man faces a string of charges after a hit-and-run in the early hours of Saturday, March 22. Beniduthsing Ramjeeawon, from Fulready Road, is charged with drink driving, possession of a Class B drug, and failing to stop following the crash on Lea Bridge Road.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was struck just before 3am and rushed to hospital with injuries described by the Metropolitan Police as non-life-threatening and non-life-changing.

Police say Ramjeeawon’s getaway ended when the car he was driving crashed shortly after the collision. He was arrested at the scene.

Police Issue Statement

“Police were called to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Lea Bridge Road at 2.50am on Saturday, March 22. The pedestrian, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with injuries which have since been assessed as non-life-threatening or life-changing.

The car later crashed and a man, the driver, was arrested at the scene. Beniduthsing Ramjeeawon, 38, of Fulready Road, Leyton, was later charged with possession of a Class B drug, driving while under the influence of alcohol, and failing to stop.”

Court Date Set as Locals Demand Better Road Safety

Ramjeeawon was released on bail and will appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 7. The incident has sparked fresh fears over drink driving and pedestrian safety during the dangerous early hours.
