Conservative MP Patrick Spencer has been hit with two sexual assault charges after alleged attacks on two women at a swanky Soho private members’ club.
Shock Claims at Celeb-Favourite Groucho Club
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed the charges relate to two separate incidents in August 2023 at the famous Groucho Club in central London’s Soho. The venue is popular with celebrities, artists, and politicians alike.
Spencer, 47, MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich since 2019, is due in court at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this Monday.
“The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Patrick Spencer MP with two counts of sexual assault, following evidence submitted in relation to two complaints made by separate women,” a CPS spokesperson said.
Political Fallout and Legal Fight Ahead
Spencer has yet to comment on the charges. The Conservative Party is expected to address the scandal with a statement soon.
It remains unclear if Spencer will lose the party whip ahead of Monday’s hearing. Parliamentary rules allow MPs charged with serious crimes to face internal probes or suspension while investigations proceed.
