Repeat Shoplifter Kristie Mcintosh Snapped Up Again Weeks After Court Let-Off
A serial shoplifter has been slammed back behind bars just weeks after the courts gave her a second chance. Kristie Mcintosh, 37, was first nabbed on April 2 for nicking £150 worth of goods from the Co-op on London Road, bromley/" title="Bromley" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Bromley.
Despite pleading guilty to two thefts at Bromley Magistrates’ Court the very next day, Mcintosh was let off with a £91 compensation order and one night in custody. But her freedom was short-lived.
Latest Heist Sees Her Remanded in Custody
On May 8, Mcintosh struck again, stealing £72 worth of items from another Co-op store. She was arrested quickly and appeared before Croydon Magistrates’ Court on May 9, where she admitted the new offence.
This time, the judge had no patience. Mcintosh was immediately remanded in custody, with sentencing set for May 30. The court cited her history of repeat offending as the reason for the harsher stance.
Leniency Sparks Outrage
Mcintosh’s quick return to crime has sparked criticism over the leniency shown in her first court appearance, especially given her extensive criminal record for similar thefts.
“Mcintosh’s record is concerning. The court previously gave her an opportunity, but it seems she has reoffended within a matter of days,” a court insider revealed.
Experts warn this case exposes the tricky balance between trying to rehabilitate repeat offenders and protecting the public.
Shoplifting Crisis Hits UK Retailers Hard
Retail chains, especially the Co-op, are crying out for tougher punishments to curb the surge in shoplifting, particularly from repeat offenders who target the same stores time and again. The British Retail Consortium reports that shoplifting is set to cost UK retailers nearly £1 billion in 2024.
What’s Next for Mcintosh?
Mcintosh will stay in custody until her sentencing hearing on May 30, where she could face a longer stretch behind bars. Police and courts alike are watching closely, hoping this sends a tougher message to persistent shoplifters.
