Notorious shoplifter from Southwark caught stealing £130 worth of goods from a Boots in Waterloo – now ordered to cough up compensation.

Stephen Armstrong, 37, with a shocking 33 prior convictions for 73 offences, was found guilty of theft at Croydon Magistrates’ Court following the May 8 raid at the Lower Marsh Boots store.

Bizarre Excuse Falls Flat

When caught, Armstrong tried to wiggle out of trouble by claiming:

“I often get confused for my brother – it must have been him.”

But police swiftly exposed the lame defence. Inspector Watson confirmed Armstrong’s brother was locked up behind bars during the offence.

Armstrong was promptly 123, especially in busy London hotspots with high foot traffic.
