Dover Flat Shut Down After Drug-Fuelled Chaos and Threats
Police Close Drug Den Following Neighbours’ Outcry
A flat in Stembrook Court, Dover, has been shut down after serious complaints about drug use, disorder, and threats to local residents, Kent Police confirmed. On Wednesday, 21 May, authorities secured a closure order at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court under Section 80 of the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
The action comes after numerous reports linked the property to ongoing drug activity, violence, and damage to the building. Police revealed drink and drug users flocked to the flat at all hours, creating noise disturbances and causing damage to communal areas, leaving neighbours distressed.
Residents Terrified by Threats and Criminal Damage
PC Michelle Sherwood stated:
“The closure of this property is a direct response to the serious concerns raised by residents. By closing this property, we are sending a clear message that antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated.”
Neighbours reported feeling unsafe and threatened, with some suffering criminal damage to their own homes. Police added that visitors to the flat had reportedly threatened residents when confronted, increasing fear and disruption across the area.
Three-Month Ban Enforced with Tough Penalties
The closure order bans anyone except emergency or social services staff from entering the property for three months. Breaching the order can lead to imprisonment or an unlimited fine. Kent Police, Dover District Council, and local community groups secured the premises on Thursday, 22 May, promising ongoing support for affected residents.
Community Safety Takes Centre Stage
The closure followed weeks of evidence gathering and partnership work. Officers highlighted the move is aimed at protecting the community and ensuring everyone can feel safe and secure in their own homes.
