Tommy Robinson, the far-right activist and ex-English Defence League chief, has walked free from HMP Woodhill in Milton Keynes after winning a High Court appeal that slashed his 18-month sentence.
The 42-year-old, born Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, stunned onlookers with a radical new look as he left prison Tuesday morning — rocking a full beard, long hair, and a red MEGA cap, a cheeky UK spin on Trump’s MAGA slogan. But his makeover was short-lived. Within hours, Robinson popped into a barber’s and shaved back to his trademark short haircut.
Instant Post-Prison Video Rant
Minutes after his release, Robinson was already mic’d up for a 27-minute video outside the prison gates. In the clip posted on X (formerly Twitter), he bitterly attacked his jail sentence, blasted the media and police, and claimed his family suffered “serious threats of harm” while he was behind bars.
He also publicly thanked Elon Musk, praising the billionaire and X owner for backing his free speech and pushing for his freedom.
One follow-up snap showed Robinson fresh from the barber with the caption: “From hobo to hero. The man is back.”
Why Tommy Got Banged Up
Robinson was jailed for breaking a court injunction linked to false and libellous claims he made against a Syrian refugee. A High Court judge ordered his early release after getting “satisfactory assurances” he won’t repeat the defamatory allegations.
Originally set for release on 26 July 2025, Robinson’s sentence was cut short after the appeal.
Legal Storm Isn’t Over Yet
Despite walking free, Robinson still faces legal battles. He is:
- Due in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 5 June charged with harassing two journalists
- Facing trial in October 2025 for allegedly refusing to hand over his phone PIN to Kent Police during a stop in Folkestone last July
Tommy Robinson remains a deeply divisive figure, continuing to stir up controversy in British politics and public life.
