Around 40 firefighters and six fire engines tackled a blaze at a block of flats near Whitmore Road in Hoxton yesterday afternoon.

The fire affected a four-storey residential building, with most of a flat on the second floor and part of a flat on the third floor sustaining damage. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.


Emergency Response

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) received the first of seven emergency calls at 2:17pm and quickly mobilised crews from:

  • Shoreditch
  • Shadwell
  • Homerton
  • Bethnal Green
  • Whitechapel
  • Dockhead

A 32-metre turntable ladder from Soho Fire Station was also deployed.

Firefighters brought the incident under control by 3:28pm, but crews remained on scene throughout the afternoon to dampen down hotspots and ensure the fire was fully extinguished.


🔍 Investigation Underway

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and fire officers are working to determine how the blaze started.

Residents in the area are advised to stay clear of the scene as crews complete their work.
