A 49-year-old man described by police as a “dangerous sexual predator” has been jailed for 10 years after raping a woman in her 20s.

Sean Reuben, of Lawrence Weston, was found guilty in May of raping the woman at a house in Clevedon in November 2021. He denied the charge, but a jury at Bristol Crown Court returned a unanimous guilty verdict.

Police were called immediately after the attack, and Reuben was arrested the same night. He was later charged with rape.

During the sentencing hearing on Wednesday, 13 August, a victim impact statement was read in court, describing the profound effect the attack had on the survivor.

Judge Burgess sentenced Reuben to 10 years in prison and ordered that he be added to the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely.

Police praised the bravery of the victim in coming forward and supporting the investigation.

“Sean Reuben is a dangerous sexual predator who targeted a vulnerable woman and subjected her to a horrific ordeal. Her courage in reporting this crime and giving evidence has helped secure this conviction and ensure he is no longer a threat to the public,” a spokesperson said.
