Man Charged After Cop Injured in Shocking St James’s Street Brawl

A 45-year-old man has been slammed with multiple charges following a violent incident that left a police officer hurt in Brighton.

Rampage on St James’s Street

Police rushed to St James’s Street at 7.30pm on Monday, 18 August, after reports of disorderly conduct. During attempts to arrest the suspect, an officer was injured and needed medical treatment.

Serious Charges Laid

Sussex Police have named the accused as Scott Lee-Allen, a 45-year-old with no fixed address. He now faces these charges:

  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (racially aggravated)
  • Intentional strangulation (racially aggravated)
  • Using threatening or abusive words or behaviour (racially aggravated)

Court Appearance and Officer’s Recovery

Lee-Allen appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 21 August, where he was remanded in custody. He’s set to face Crown Court on 18 September, with the location yet to be confirmed.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said the injured officer is now on the mend.
