A brazen thief from Worthing has landed himself behind bars for eight months after blatantly ignoring a court order and hitting the shops again just weeks after a suspended sentence.
Caught Red-Handed on CCTV Rip-Off at Sainsbury’s
Dylan Hampson, 28, of no fixed abode, was jailed after he admitted a spree of shoplifting at Sainsbury’s stores on Goring Road and Littlehampton Road between 7 and 18 September 2025. Despite a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) banning him from all Co-op and Sainsbury’s stores across Sussex, Hampson shamelessly snuck into a store and swiped 16 packs of meat — all caught on camera.
Career Criminal’s Long Rap Sheet Under Scrutiny
At Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 26 September, the repeat offender pleaded guilty to eight new theft charges and five breaches of his CBO. The court heard Hampson racks up a whopping 23 convictions from 65 offences, mostly theft-related. His endless offending has left local retailers and shoppers on edge.
Sussex Police Crack Down on Shoplifting Spree
Sussex Police have vowed to clamp down hard on repeat shoplifters and protect local businesses from ongoing misery.
“Early reporting and working closely with retailers is key to stopping this crime,”
said Inspector Andrew Bryant. He also spotlighted Operation Apprentice, the force’s dedicated project to catch and prosecute persistent shoplifters.
