A 21-year-old man from Wincanton has landed a suspended jail sentence after a reckless police chase involving tailgating and speeding through a 30mph zone.
Dangerous Driving on A30 Near Ludwell
Jake King, from Maunder Close, Wincanton, took to the A30 near Ludwell on September 27th and drove like a lunatic. Police officers from the County Local Policing Tasking Team spotted him tailgating their unmarked car. Then King sped past their vehicle, blatantly breaking the 30mph speed limit.
Multiple Offences Caught on the Spot
King’s joyride was cut short when police pulled him over. At first, he refused to hand over details but later admitted he was driving while disqualified and uninsured. That’s not all – he was also caught using false number plates and had a knife in his car, a serious crime. Officers discovered his vehicle was unroadworthy with exposed tyre cords and seized it immediately.
Suspended Sentence and Tough Police Warning
Swindon Magistrates’ Court handed King a five-month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, plus 30 rehabilitation activity days.
“Despite driving on false plates and without both a licence and insurance, King drove very recklessly by overtaking what turned out to be an unmarked police vehicle in a 30mph zone. He was also found to be in possession of a knife,” said PC Hughes from the County LPTT. “There is no place for this type of criminality in Wiltshire and we will continue to be robust with those found to be breaking the law.”
Wiltshire Police are making it clear: reckless driving, fake documents, and weapons won’t be tolerated on their roads.
