A 65-year-old woman is fighting for her life after a bizarre accident involving a vintage beach buggy in Havant on Sunday.

Scarf Gets Trapped in Beach Buggy Wheels

The woman was driving a 1970s-style blue beach buggy down North Street when her scarf became caught in the vehicle’s wheels. The open-top buggy’s spinning wheels pulled the scarf tight, trapping her in a terrifying incident.

Passers-by Spring into Action

Witnesses quickly called emergency services and tried to free her before paramedics arrived just after 12.30pm. The road was closed as crews rushed to treat the woman at the scene.

Rushed to Hospital with Life-Threatening Injuries

She was airlifted to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham with severe, life-changing injuries. A South Central Ambulance spokesman confirmed:

“We were called to reports of a woman injured while using an open top vehicle. The 65-year-old had a scarf wrapped around her neck that became trapped in the vehicle. We sent a rapid response paramedic and an ambulance. The patient was treated at the scene and rushed to QA Hospital in a life-threatening condition. She was left in the care of the hospital resus team.”
