Met to Flood London Streets with Extra Cops to Smash Gang Violence This Weekend

London’s Met Police are deploying a surge of officers across the Capital this weekend after a spate of recent murders and rising threats from illegal music raves. The move aims to slam the brakes on gang warfare and keep communities safe.

All Hands on Deck for Violence Crackdown

The Met is pulling resources from dozens of units, including the Violent Crime Task Force, Trident, armed officers, and the fresh Violence Suppression Units. They’ll patrol every hotspot, ready to hit hard at gang crime and respond swiftly to any flare-ups of violence or disorder.

Gold Commander Warns: ‘Too Many Lives Lost’

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Lucy D’Orsi, the weekend’s Gold Commander, said:

“The past week has seen too many lives lost needlessly at the hands of violent criminals. Even one murder is one too many, but we’re alarmed by this sharp rise.

“We’ve also seen an increase in unlicensed music events. These gatherings not only disrupt communities and risk COVID-19 spread, but have also sparked violent clashes with attendees and police.”

“Tackling this violence is our top priority. We’re pulling out all the stops to prevent more bloodshed and bring offenders to justice.”

“Officers will be highly visible and actively engaging with local communities, including employing stop-and-search tactics.”

“But policing alone won’t fix this. We need the whole community to step up. If you have info that could stop more harm, or if you’re worried about someone, contact us immediately so we can act.”

Communities Urged to Speak Up

  • The Met stresses that fighting gang violence demands community support.
  • Anyone with tips or concerns can help the police intervene before more lives are torn apart.
  • People are encouraged to come forward if they notice suspicious activity or fear for someone’s safety.

Londoners can expect heavy police presence across the city this weekend as the Met battles to stem the violent tide.
