Carlisle Man Jailed for Brutal Head Stomp Attack
Graeme Thompson, 37, from Buchanan Road, Carlisle, has been handed a hefty prison sentence for a savage assault that nearly killed his victim. Alongside jail time, he faces an extended three and a half year licence period on release.
Stomping On Victim’s Head Leaves Serious Injuries
Thompson repeatedly stamped on the victim’s head while she was helpless on the floor, causing severe injuries. Doctors confirmed fractures to her eye socket and jaw, alongside a dangerous brain bleed.
Rachel Gent, 37, also from Carlisle, joined the attack at a flat in Botchergate on August 20, 2020. She admitted to causing actual bodily harm earlier this year and was sentenced to 20 months inside.
Quick Police Response Prevented Tragedy
Police and paramedics arrived just in time to save the victim’s life. Detective Constable Richard Scoffham said, “Had it not been for their prompt and effective actions, it is likely the victim would have died.”
“Thompson has shown himself to be a violent and dangerous individual. He will now serve a significant sentence for his despicable actions. Unfortunately, the victim will carry the impact of this assault for years.”
Thompson admitted intentionally causing grievous bodily harm and was sentenced today at Carlisle Crown Court. The victim continues to suffer lasting effects from the attack.
Police Crackdown on Violent Crime
DC Scoffham added, “I hope this sentence reassures the people of Carlisle that violent crime will not be tolerated.”
