Convicted Killer Cooper Seeks Shocking Conviction Review
Cooper, sentenced to a whole life minimum tariff at Swansea Crown Court, was found guilty of rape, indecent assault, and four counts of attempted robbery. Despite this, he continues to proclaim his innocence and has now applied for a review of his conviction.
Last Hope: Criminal Cases Review Commission Takes On Case
The Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) has accepted Cooper’s application. This independent body investigates possible miscarriages of justice and serves as the final appeal route for those claiming wrongful conviction.
The CCRC can command new information from public bodies but only reviews cases if fresh evidence or new scientific advances come to light. If the commission supports the review, Cooper’s case could be sent back to court, where his likeness will be compared to a man caught using Peter Dixon’s cash card on the day of the murder.
Judge’s Grim Words: A “Very Dangerous” Predator
The judge called Cooper “a very dangerous man, highly predatory,” warning that without forensic breakthroughs, he might never have been caught.
Convicted in 2011 for three incidents—including rape and indecent assault on two teenage girls—Cooper now faces fresh suspicion. New forensic tests linked him to the unsolved double murders in Pembrokeshire, pointing to him as a double shotgun killer and sex attacker based on evidence from the Huntsman investigation.
