Quick-Thinking Cops Nab Phone Thief in Broad Daylight

Hamza Esguioui, 28, tried to make a quick getaway after snatching a phone from a station food outlet. But he didn’t count on plain-clothes British Transport Police (BTP) officers who were right there and swooped in fast.

Dragged Straight to Court at Highbury Corner

Esguioui, who has no fixed address, was thrown before Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court without delay. On Thursday 25 September, he pleaded guilty to theft. The magistrates didn’t waste a second and sentenced him the very same day.

Two Months Inside for Theft – Plus Four More for Breach of Suspended Sentence

The thief was locked up for two months for the phone snatch. But that’s not all – he also copped an extra four months for committing offences while already serving a suspended sentence for fraud by false representation.
