Chaos hit the A350 in Chippenham early Friday when a lorry flipped onto its side, dumping a huge load of wood chips all over the road.
HGV Crash Causes Major Blockage
A heavy goods vehicle packed with wood chips toppled over in the early hours, blocking the crucial A350 route. Emergency teams rushed to clear the mess and manage the traffic chaos.
Driver Arrested for Drug Driving at Scene
Michael Maddick, 44, from Portmead, Swansea, was arrested after ambulance crews checked his condition. Though medically cleared, he was charged with driving while unfit through drug use.
“Michael Maddick, 44, of Portmead, Swansea, has been charged with driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs. He has been released on bail and is due to appear at Swindon Magistrates Court on November 4.” – Wiltshire Police spokesperson
Maddick is now out on bail. He faces court next month as police continue their investigation.
