Man Jailed for Brutal Rape in Burton Hotel
Aaron Tugwell, 26, from Rugeley, has been sentenced to seven years behind bars for raping a man in a Burton-on-Trent hotel. The Stafford Crown Court handed down the sentence on 16 October after Tugwell was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of causing a man to engage in sexual activity.
Horrific Hotel Assault
The horrific attack took place in October 2022. Tugwell lured his victim to a hotel room before launching the savage assault. When the victim tried to escape, Tugwell pushed him to stay, but the man managed to flee and took a taxi straight home. He reported the appalling ordeal to police immediately.
Swift Police Action and Verdict
Staffordshire Police’s Rape and Serious Sexual Offences unit (RASSO) acted fast, supporting the survivor and gathering key evidence. Despite Tugwell’s denials during questioning and trial, the jury found him guilty on all counts in July.
Tugwell has now been placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
Police Urge Survivors to Speak Out
Officers are calling on all survivors of sexual offences to come forward. “You will be taken seriously and treated with dignity and respect,” they say. Support is available via 101 or the Live Chat service on the Staffordshire Police website.
