Stalker Rapist’s Jail Time Boosted to 17 Years After Government Push

A vile predator who stalked a woman for six months before raping and threatening her has had his sentence dramatically increased following Government intervention.

Brandon Smith Gets Extra Four and a Half Years

Brandon Smith, 25, from Denton, Greater Manchester, was initially jailed for 12 years and six months for his horrific crimes.

But thanks to a hard-hitting intervention by the Solicitor General, his sentence has jumped to 17 years behind bars – plus a three-year licence extension.

Shocking Details of the Attack

The court heard Smith had never met the victim but obsessively followed her every move for six months. He memorised her daily route to work before attacking on the morning of 5 July 2024.

Smith grabbed the woman during her commute and threatened to stab her if she screamed. He then dragged her behind bushes and raped her.

After the brutal attack, he threatened to kill her mother if she reported him.

Denied, Then Found Guilty

At first, Smith denied knowing the victim. When forensic evidence proved his guilt, he claimed the sex was consensual.

Justice caught up with him at Bolton Crown Court, where he was found guilty on all five charges on 8 January 2025.

The Solicitor General Rt Hon Ellie Reeves MP slammed the attack, saying:

“Brandon Smith’s attack and rape of a woman in broad daylight after stalking her for months was utterly appalling.

This Government is committed to halving violence against women and girls and I welcome the court’s decision to increase Smith’s sentence, keeping a dangerous sexual predator off our streets.”

Alongside his lengthened jail term, Smith has also been slapped with a restraining order. Finally, justice has struck hard against this nasty offender.
