Leeds Man Jailed for Terror Plots and Robbery Scheme

A 22-year-old from Leeds has been locked up for four years after admitting to sharing terrorist materials and plotting a violent robbery. Cameron Gloria De Almeida, from Garnet Place, Beeston, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday, December 16.

Guilty Pleas Didn’t Save Him

De Almeida pleaded guilty earlier this year to five counts of spreading terrorist content. He claimed he acted recklessly and did not intend to recruit or inspire others. But after a two-day Newton Hearing, Judge Kearl KC dismissed this defence, ruling that his actions did encourage terrorism, either directly or indirectly.

He was also handed an extra year on extended licence, meaning more time under strict supervision after prison.

How the Plot Unravelled

Police swooped on De Almeida on March 1, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East and West Yorkshire Police.

  • He was detained under the Terrorism Act for seven days.
  • Officers seized an iPhone and uncovered cloud storage packed with terrorist propaganda and violent Jihad lectures.
  • Chats between De Almeida and an unknown accomplice revealed plans for an armed robbery targeting a delivery driver.
  • At his home, police found two phones, balaclavas, and a knife.

A Dangerous Underworld Mix

This case shines a harsh light on the deadly mix of terrorism and street crime lurking in our cities. Authorities warn this combo poses a serious threat to public safety.
