Sidcup Man Charged Over Explosive Blast That Shattered ULEZ Camera

Kevin Rees, 63, from Sidcup, faces serious charges after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated on Willersley Avenue, wrecking a ULEZ enforcement camera. The Met’s counter-terrorism unit arrested him following the blast at 6:45pm on December 6, 2024.

Health Scare Delays Key Court Hearing

Rees missed his pre-trial review at Woolwich Crown Court on December 18 due to health problems. Judges will soon assess if he’s fit for a regular trial or requires alternative legal measures. His trial is set to kick off on January 6.

Prior ULEZ Camera Attack Escapes Jail Time

The latest case echoes a bizarre incident in October when 63-year-old Stephen Harwood-Stamper avoided prison despite sabotaging a ULEZ camera with an angle grinder.

“I lost my job and embarrassed my children because of what I did,” Harwood-Stamper told the court.

With crackdowns on ULEZ sabotage increasing, authorities are keeping a close eye on offenders like Rees as the new year approaches.
