An 84-year-old pensioner has been hit with a staggering 47 charges following a Met Police probe into sex crimes spanning more than four decades. The horrific allegations date from the late 1960s right up to 2010, targeting victims as young as eight years old.

The Metropolitan Police kicked off their investigation in November 2023 after fresh reports of historic rape and serious sexual offences surfaced. Edward Sweeney, from Welbeck Avenue, Sidcup, now faces a slew of charges covering crimes committed in Sidcup, Kent, and shocking offences overseas in Portugal, Turkey, and Hungary.

- 3 counts of rape of a child under 13
- 27 counts of indecent assault
- 5 counts of indecency with a child
- 7 counts of sexual assault of a child
- 5 counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity
The appalling allegations involve nine male victims aged between eight and 14 at the time.
