Two suspects, including an Iranian man, have been charged after allegedly trying to sneak into the heavily guarded HM Naval Base Clyde in Scotland, the heart of the UK’s nuclear submarine fleet.
Attempt to Breach Faslane Base Foiled
The incident took place at Faslane, home to the UK’s Trident nuclear weapons. Police Scotland revealed a 34-year-old Iranian man and a 31-year-old Romanian woman were arrested following their failed attempt to enter the base on Thursday afternoon.
Officers confirmed the pair faced charges and are set to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court this Monday. Police investigations are ongoing.
Heavily Protected Nuclear Site Targeted
“Around 5pm on Thursday, 19 March 2026, we were made aware of two people attempting to enter HM Naval Base Clyde,” a police spokesperson said. “A 34-year-old Iranian man and a 31-year-old Romanian woman have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.”
Faslane is the central hub for the UK’s nuclear deterrent, hosting a key part of the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet armed with Trident missiles.
Security Under Scrutiny After Breach Attempt
The Royal Navy confirmed that the two attempted to enter the base but were stopped before gaining access. This raises fresh questions about security at one of Britain’s most sensitive defence sites.
The investigation continues amid wider concerns over protecting vital military infrastructure from potential threats.
