Operation Brock, the contraflow system on the M20 motorway designed to manage traffic congestion at the Port of Dover, is being lifted this weekend. However, significant overnight closures will be in place to remove the system.
The closures will affect the following sections of the M20:
- London-bound: The motorway will be closed between junction 9 (Ashford) and junction 8 (Maidstone).
- Coastbound: The road will be closed from junction 7 (Maidstone/Sittingbourne) to junction 9 (Ashford).
The overnight closures are scheduled to start at 8pm on Sunday, 22 December, and will last until 6am on Monday, 23 December.
Drivers are advised to avoid relying solely on Satnav devices during this period, as clear diversion signs will be in place to guide traffic. Following these signs carefully is important to prevent being directed onto incorrect routes. It is recommended to plan ahead and expect delays during the closure hours.
With Operation Brock removed, traffic flow on the M20 is expected to improve, especially with the busy holiday season approaching. However, motorists should exercise extra caution during the overnight closures.
