A 22-year-old driver from Greenwich has been sentenced to 16 months in prison following a police operation that uncovered a significant quantity of Class A drugs during a traffic stop in Sutton.
Gideon Adu, who resides on Plumstead Common Road, admitted to possession with intent to supply cocaine and heroin. He also pleaded guilty to driving without a licence or insurance.
The incident took place on June 24 in Hardwick Lane, Sutton, Ashfield, when police officers noticed Adu’s suspicious driving. They followed him and checked his details using the Police National Computer system.
During the stop, Adu was unable to provide a date of birth. Further checks revealed he was uninsured and unlicensed. A search of his vehicle uncovered a bag beneath the driver’s seat containing approximately 400 wraps of drugs, including around 300 packets of cocaine and 100 packets of heroin. Officers also confiscated mobile phones and cash.
Police Constable Joshua Ashton commented on the case, stating: “Drug offences are incredibly serious and we thoroughly investigate all reports made to Nottinghamshire Police. This was excellent policing by the officers who spotted Adu driving suspiciously.”
He added, “Drugs ruin lives and fuel violent crimes that devastate communities. We’re always working hard to hunt down dealers and bring them to justice.”
