Brenton Aherne, aged 34, from Beanhill, Milton Keynes, has been found guilty of wounding with intent and carrying knives in public after a six-day trial at Aylesbury Crown Court concluded on Tuesday, 16 April.
The incident occurred on the night of Saturday 17 October 2017 at The North Western pub in Wolverton. Aherne was asked to leave the premises after urinating on the floor. Instead of complying, he became violent, throwing a glass bottle at a staff member.
Shortly afterwards, Aherne pulled a knife from his coat and stabbed a 27-year-old man in the chest before fleeing on foot.
The victim sustained a non-life-threatening injury and received treatment at Milton Keynes University Hospital, being discharged the same night. Police arrested Aherne later that evening and found two knives in his possession.
Aherne was formally charged on 5 September 2018 and is scheduled to be sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court on Friday 21 June.
Investigating officer PC Laura Wilson from Milton Keynes Police stated, “This was a nasty incident in a public house where the victim suffered a stab wound to his chest, which thankfully did not cause more harm. Aherne acted aggressively towards innocent members of the public and staff after being asked to leave for inappropriate behaviour. It is thanks to good fortune there were no further injuries. Tackling knife crime is a priority for Thames Valley Police. We will work tirelessly to take dangerous offenders off our streets.”
She added, “If you suspect someone is involved in knife crime, contact Thames Valley Police on 101 or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
