Jonah Rochester, aged 29, from Hartlepool, has been sentenced to nine years and three months in prison following two brutal assaults on women last year. The attacks resulted in one victim suffering a broken hip and another sustaining a shattered leg.

The violent incidents took place in May and July 2023, causing serious injuries to both victims and sparking outrage in the Hartlepool community.

After a swift arrest and court proceedings, Rochester was convicted of multiple charges, including grievous bodily harm (GBH), assaulting an emergency worker, GBH with intent, and intentional strangulation. He appeared at Teesside Crown Court on 23rd May where the sentence was imposed.

Detective Inspector Louise Sproson from Hartlepool CID commented on the case, stating, “Rochester is a violent individual who caused significant injuries to his victims. Cleveland Police welcome this lengthy sentence which will give him time to reflect on what he has done. Together with victims’ support, we can bring offenders like him to justice and keep Hartlepool safe.”
