Authorities are reaching out to potential witnesses and individuals possessing pertinent dashcam footage as they launch an investigation into a tragic road traffic collision in East Dorset.
The incident occurred shortly after 21.30 BST on Saturday, September 16, 2023, when officers received a report of a collision on Hurn Road, situated between Ringwood and Matchams. Reports indicated that a blue BMW 1 Series had left the carriageway and sustained extensive damage.
Upon receiving the emergency call, first responders promptly arrived at the scene. Tragically, it was determined that an 18-year-old female passenger had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the location. Her family has since been informed of the heartbreaking news.
The three remaining occupants of the vehicle were swiftly transported to a hospital. One occupant is believed to have sustained serious injuries, while the other two are believed to have sustained minor injuries.
Three individuals, all 18 years old and consisting of two men and one woman, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving offences in connection with the incident.
In response to the collision, road closures were implemented to facilitate the emergency services’ response and conduct an examination of the collision scene.
Sergeant Mile Gatfield, from the traffic unit, expressed condolences, saying, “Our thoughts are with the family of the young woman who sadly died, and officers are supporting her family.” Gatfield further emphasised the importance of a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
