Four people have tragically died following a collision in Colchester early this morning, Saturday 1 February 2025. Essex Police responded to reports of a vehicle crashing into a building on Magdalen Street at approximately 4:40am.
Emergency services attended the scene, but despite their efforts, four individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. Their families have been informed, and they are receiving support from specialist officers during this difficult time.
The road was closed for much of the day as investigators worked to recover the vehicle and carry out enquiries.
Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper expressed his condolences: “My thoughts, and those of everyone at Essex Police, are with the friends and families of the four people who died this morning. I want to thank the businesses and residents in the Magdalen Street area for their support and understanding during what has been a tragic situation.”

He also paid tribute to the emergency services personnel involved, stating: “I want to pay tribute to emergency services personnel who have worked diligently, professionally, and compassionately to ensure the dignity of those who have died.”
The cause of the collision is under investigation, and Essex Police are urging anyone with information, CCTV, dash cam footage, or any other relevant information to come forward.
