Pop star Will Young has narrowly escaped a driving ban after being caught using his phone behind the wheel near his Calne home.
Caught Red-Handed on Oxford Road
The 46-year-old singer was spotted using his mobile phone while driving his green Volkswagen Golf on Oxford Road on 28 March 2025.
Young owns a lavish Georgian townhouse in Calne worth around £1 million — less than a mile from where the offence took place.
Exceptional Hardship Saved Will From Ban
At Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on 30 September, Young pleaded guilty but argued a ban would cause “exceptional hardship.”
The magistrates agreed, deciding against disqualification despite Young having 12 points on his licence.
“Exceptional hardship was found because it would have significant impact on your issues and there is no alternative for you in your position,” court documents said. “Secondarily, the ban would have an impact on the charitable causes you support.”
Young was fined £666, ordered to pay £90 in costs to Wiltshire Police, plus a £266 surcharge.
Will’s Previous Driving Wobble
This is not Young’s first brush with driving trouble. In 2018, he crashed his Mercedes into a parked car on the A68, narrowly missing the driver who leapt to safety.
He was fined £600, given five points, and banned for six months due to points accumulation, according to BBC reports.
