Intrusive Checks and Breach of Bail Conditions
Edwards, of Parkfields, Chippenham, conducted intrusive checks on both his victim and her new partner while on and off duty. An investigation revealed he visited the area around the woman’s home address 31 times, with many visits occurring while he was on duty. Notably, he breached his bail conditions by visiting her home on one occasion.
Social Media Searches and Admission of Guilt
Edwards also asked a friend to search the victim’s social media accounts after being blocked. He admitted to conducting 27 searches using police systems to gather information about his ex-partner, her male friends, and her new partner without any lawful policing purpose.
Sentencing and Consequences
Edwards, who served as a response officer in Chippenham, was suspended as soon as Bristol Crown Court, he was sentenced to 20 months in prison, suspended for two years. He must also complete 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days, wear a GPS monitored tag for three months, and undertake 100 hours of unpaid work.

Andrew Eddy of the Crown Prosecution Service stated, “Andrew Edwards abused his power as a police officer to commit offences and was aware of the impact of his wrongdoing.” He added that the case highlights the commitment to ensuring women and girls can live free from fear of stalking and harassment.
Assistant Chief Constable Ian Saunders condemned Edwards’ actions as “totally unacceptable,” emphasising the need for integrity within the police force. He reassured the public that no one is above the Lawlaw, regardless of their profession.
